Spring 2021
Experimentation of a variety of typographic mediums was explored for this brief. ‘Intense’ was my given word in which I drew inspiration. These collages are meant to evoke an overwhelming feeling inspired by the nature of 2020.

I spent a lot of time researching a wide array of designers—their work spurred different emotions within me, which inspired me to approach this project in a tactile manor verses a digital one. I wanted to maintain an ‘intensity’ throughout my process—whether this was through ripping apart pages of magazines, or through punching holes and crinkling the paper.
Creative Voice & Approach
I dove into synonyms for my given word, then chose one that best helped to describe the tone I wanted to relay through my design. I used the word “Bold” to help drive the creative aspect of this project.
Process
I tore out pages from my NatGeos, and scoured other magazines I had laying around while on the lookout for interesting characters that I could incorporate in my collages. I strayed from any delicate typefaces, in efforts to stay true to the ‘bold’ nature of the design.
Collage Iterations
I arranged images, letters, and numbers various times. I played with white/black backgrounds, density in certain areas of the space, and movement that trickled away from certain heavy areas of composition—all in efforts to help lead the viewer’s eye to a particular area of the space.
Exploration of Collage Iterations
In order to further develop these collages, I expanded on them by focusing on their arrangements and how they can evoke that ‘Intense’ message through their visual nature.
Thank you!
